LEWIS CARLETON RYAN (American, 1894-1982) “Santa Barbara Mission” Woodblock Print
Offered here is an unusual color woodblock print from artist Lewis Carleton Ryan (the majority of prints found by this artist are in black & white). Titled “Santa Barbara Mission”, this piece is dated “25” (1925), inscribed “for Abbie” and signed in full “Lewis Carleton Ryan”, in pencil. There are two areas of concern, there is some visible damage in the top left hand corner of the print, as well as what appears to be a closed tear to the left of the inscription. Image size is approximately 9x11 inches, framed is 16.75 x 18.75 inches. Appears to be in its original period frame. Has a Rago Arts label on the front. Completed at the height of California impressionism, this piece would be an excellent addition to those that collect early California art, woodblock prints, and would also look great in a mission-style home.
