Offered here is an original etching titled “Gateway” by Clara Eastman Wiltse. Signed in the lower right, this is a beautifully framed etching with a J. Pocker & Sons framer/gallery label on the back. The image measures 6 x 8.5 inches, and framed measures 11 x 13 inches.

Biography:
Per the Johnson Collection Index of Women Artists, Clara Wiltse died in Indiana but was closely associated with West Virginia. She is also mentioned in the book “The WPA Guide to West Virginia”, and has etchings held in the collection of UC Berkeley. Ball State University has a digital copy of a gallery exhibition retrospective of Wiltse’s work from 1971, in which the pamphlet lists the etching “Gateway” as one of the works displayed.
